Look how much the X850XT beats the X1600XT.
X850XT
Pixel Fill Rate 8320 MPixels/sec
Texture Fill Rate 8320 MTexels/sec

X1600XT
Pixel Fill Rate 2360 MPixels/sec
Texture Fill Rate 2360 MTexels/sec

Now that is the result of the X850XT having 12 more texture units, 12 more raster operators, and another side note is that it has 4 more pixelpipelines and 256bit memory instead of 128bit
lets put down his best options and compare them all:

(bold signifies where the Video Card is stronger than the other cards... italic/unerlined signifies where the video card is weaker than theother cards...)

Radeon X1600XT:
Core Clock:600MHz
Pixel Pipelines:12
Memory Clock:1400MHz
Memory Size:256MB
Memory Interface:128-bit
Price:$149

Radeon X850XT:
Core Clock:520MHz
Pixel Pipelines:16
Memory Clock:1080MHz
Memory Size:256MB
Memory Interface:256-bit
Price:$168

Geforce 6800GS:
Core Clock:425MHz
Pixel Pipelines:12
Memory Clock:1GHz
Memory Size:256Mb
Memory Interface:256-bit
Price:$199

appears to me that here we can count out the 6800GS and we can see that the X1600XT and X850XT are very comparable... lets match just those 2 up now:

Radeon X1600XT:
Core Clock:600MHz
Pixel Pipelines:12
Memory Clock:1400MHz
Memory Size:256MB
Memory Interface:128-bit
Price:$149

Radeon X850XT:
Core Clock:520MHz
Pixel Pipelines:16
Memory Clock:1080MHz
Memory Size:256MB
Memory Interface:256-bit
Price:$168

so it comes down to either a higher PixelPipelines and better Memory Interface or higher clock speeds... very close, but IMO i would go with the 16 pixel pipelines of the X850XT...

don't get 6800GS, u can get 7600gt for a cheaper price and it outperforms 6800GS.

eVGA Geforce 7600GT
Core Clock: 580MHz
Pixel Pipelines:12
Memory Clock:1500MHz
Memory Size:256MB
Memory Interface:128-bit
price: 189$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130283

aslo have look on this

eVGA Geforce 7600GS
ore Clock: 400
Pixel Pipelines:12
Memory Clock:800MHz
Memory Size:256MB
Memory Interface:128-bit
price:139$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130004

and don't go with x850xt because this hard doesn't support shader model 3.0 and it is a noisy card.

(BOLD SIGNIFIES WHAT THE CARD IS BETTER THAN ALL THE OTHER CARDS IN)

Radeon X1600XT:
Core Clock:600MHz
Pixel Pipelines:12
Memory Clock:1400MHz
Memory Size:256MB
Memory Interface:128-bit
Price:$149

Radeon X850XT:

Memory Clock:1500MHz

ore Clock: 400
Pixel Pipelines:12
Memory Clock:800MHz
Memory Size:256MB
Memory Interface:128-bit
price:139$

thus we take out the eVGA 7600GS from the comparison:

(BOLD SIGNIFIES WHAT THE CARD IS BETTER THAN ALL THE OTHER CARDS IN... Underlined/ITALIC signifies what the card is worse than all the other cards...)

:
Core Clock:600MHz
Pixel Pipelines:12
Memory Clock:1400MHz
Memory Size:256MB
Memory Interface:128-bit
Price:$149

Radeon X850XT:
Core Clock:520MHz
Pixel Pipelines:16
Memory Clock:1080MHz
Memory Size:256MB
Memory Interface:256-bit
Price:$168

VGA Geforce 7600GT
Core Clock: 580MHz
Pixel Pipelines:12
Memory Clock:1500MHz
Memory Size:256MB
Memory Interface:128-bit
price: 189$

...the Radeon X1600XT gets beat by the Geforce 7600GT because if you look at the clock speeds, you see that the memory clock on the 7600GT 100MHz faster than the x1600xt's and the x1600xt's core clock is only 20MHz faster than the 7600GT's... so i come to the conclusion that the 7600GT is faster that the X1600XT... so we take out the x1600XT from the comparison... the X850XT stays in cus of the jump from 12 pixel pipelins to 16...

(BOLD SIGNIFIES WHAT THE CARD IS BETTER THAN ALL THE OTHER CARDS IN...)

Radeon X850XT:
Core Clock:520MHz
Pixel Pipelines:16
Memory Clock:1080MHz
Memory Size:256MB
Memory Interface:256-bit
Price:$168

VGA Geforce 7600GT
Core Clock: 580MHz
Pixel Pipelines:12
Memory Clock:1500MHz
Memory Size:256MB
Memory Interface:128-bit
price: 189$

so it really comes down to what is more important? the extra pixel pipelines? or the faster clock speeds? IMO i would go with the X850XT cus i have heard good things about the card... and in the linksit has the best ratings:

these are links to where you can buy these cards (in the order of best to worst IMO):
Radeon X850XT - $179
Geforce 7600GT - $189
Radeon X1600XT - $150
Geforce 6800GS (OCed version) - $199
Geforce 7600GS - $139

Aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhh......

I was refering to actual performance, not specs! They have the actual results of the specs like this:

Core Clock 590 MHz
Memory Clock 690 MHz (1380 DDR)
Memory Bandwidth 22.08 GB/sec
Shader Operations 7080 Operations/sec
Pixel Fill Rate 2360 MPixels/sec
Texture Fill Rate 2360 MTexels/sec
Vertex Operations 737.5 MVertices/sec

THAT is what counts. There is the real comparison between the models.

Arrow birds of a feather

ummmmm just my 2 cents.im also about to buy a new card to upgrade from a 9550 radeon.something i havnt seen anyone mention besides all these hardcore specs that are always helpful is that the x1000 series has avio software thats going to have over 1 billion colors.in addition to that there is also the adaptive anti aliasing to quote the official ati site"Radeon X1600’s 90-nanometer process technology and ultra-threaded architecture combine power and efficiency to optimized support for Shader Model 3.0 and deliver new high dynamic range visual effects, enhanced realism with adaptive anti-aliasing"

i was originally looking at the x800 series and while the unlockable 4 pipelines are tempting i am pretty sure they dont support shader 3.0,avio,and adaptive antialiasing.

in my case and yours in a value minded search for an awesome vid card the x1600 is much more appealing to me because it has the latest software and honestly the x1000 series hasnt even begun to be really overclocked yet while the x800 series has been pushed to the limit.

im waiting for any replies too

New Topic = New Thread. Particularly as you need an AGP card, whereas he's looking for a PCI-E.

Not correct.

X850XT:
16 pp
520 core
1080 memory
6 vertex
X1800GTO
12pp
500 core
1000 memory
8 vertex

http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards....1=55&card2=386

Look at the:
Memory Bandwidth
Shader Operations
Pixel Fill Rate
Texture Fill Rate
Vertex Operations

X850XT owns the X1800GTO on everything except vertex operations, and the X1800GTO doesn't win then by much.
Don't rely solely on those for an indication of performance. Real world performance is the most important thing, and the 7600GT tends to beat out the X850XT in this regard.
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/200...1800gto/8.html

Also, the 7600GT has the advantage of a single-slot design, runs cooler, uses less power, and is not as loud as the X850XT.
