theres a number of possible reasons:

> they were banned by IP from a forum or other site
> they are being tracked down by the FBI for rape organised over the internet
> they fancied a change of number scenery
> they are hacking (badly, if your good you shouldnt need to worry about your IP)
> got bored of 234.642.936.43 and wanted 421.856.142.54 instead

ok, well some of those were joking, but you get the idea.

In addition to what you just said, they could be the ones being "hacked" (IE: A lame DDoS attack).

It's like changing your phone number when you're sick of telemarketers and old relatives calling.

Very true, but I find that they always track you down eventually...

Dragon listed many of the major reasons. Some of the obvious would be if a hacker or someone else found out your IP, and was trying to hack you. If you have been banned from a site by your IP, or a number of other reasons.

You DO realise that IPs go from 0 to 255??

So 642, 936, 421 and 856 don't work.

Haha, he probably did it for the same reason why tv shows use the 555 prefix...
