Question little new to computers but can some one help?

i have a sempron 3000+ @ 1.99Ghz and i have 512mb of ram if i go out and buy 2 gig of ram and add it will i see much a diffrence if so in what? i am able to play doom 3 on my current computer with the 512mb of RAM i have a 256 ati card but when i start doom it stutters a bit till the computer get used to it and then it goes perfect no lagg. but i dont want to spend that much money on 2 gigs of ram if im not going to see much of a diffrence thanks for your time.

You will see some difference with more RAM, but not in games. Things might load quicker, but that's about it. If you want better performace, get a faster processor and a better GPU...Just because it has 256M doesn't mean a thing. What's the actual GPU?

ok found it i think i was way off with the assupmtion on what video card i had but i have a X800XT
