Default Convert Graphics to OCR PDF?

What's the best way to convert a scanned graphics document to PDF with OCR?

I have the scanned images. Problem is that Acrobat 7.0 gives me too much errors when I create a PDF from multiple files then do OCR. The other problem is that my scanner/printer can do this directly, but b/c I didn't tell it to convert to PDF in the first place, I can't get it to do this after I've scanned the images.

Is there a 3rd party software that allows me to do all of this while preserving the original image quality/resolution?
