Default homepage hijack

Hello thank you for reading.

My homepage has been hijacked!

I'm using Windows XP.

So I was surfing porn a few days ago and as does happen occasionally I got some spyware, this time it was Spyware Quake, which was pretty and annoying and hard to ignore, but I found some good manual removal instructions and I thought I got it off my PC.

So now ever since, my homepage has been hijacked. Its now www.securitysafeguards.net. Here's where it gets peculiar. My homepage in internet options still says the site I want and that site even comes up for a split second at first, but then it goes to the above site. Also when I have been trying to do research on how to avoid this it blocks the page! I get a block message similar to when a popup is blocked. I use firefox as well and its homepage is safe. I tried doing a search for .hta files and all the search turned up were two windows media tour exe's.

I want to avoid downloading more software to fix this if at all possible because downloading software to get rid of software doesn't make a lot of sense. In my experience most supposed spyware removal programs are nothing more than spyware themselves anyways.

I apologize for any useful details which may be omitted from this email. I'll be checking tomorrow night for a reply and hopefully I can check again tonight to field any follow up questions.

Thank you!

PS: I wanted to copy and paste my running processes here but I could not figure out how, so if someone wanted to put up some instructions on that I could do that.

Well the best thing to do IS indeed downloading spyware removal programs....they know what theyre doin a lot better than you do.

It does make sense to download software to get rid of software because once you are done with the spyware REMOVAL program, you can uninstall it. People use anti virus dont they? Thats software to get rid of software.

Anyways, there are many ACCREDITED spyware removal programs that will get this done that certainly do not contain spyware.

Here are two sites that you should go to. Please download both products and run the scans. After they are done feel free to uninstall both.

http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-...bj=dl&tag=top5

Then, AFTER YOU DO WHAT I SAID ABOVE, you might want to try hijackthis...this will create a log that we can look at here to make sure everything is okay. Copy and paste the log and we will look through it and tell you what to delete.

Hijackthis
