My homepage has been hijacked!

I'm running windows xp.

So it all started last weekend when I was browsing for some porn online. And as I do expect to happen from time to time, I got some spyware. This time it was spyware quake. I was able to get rid of spyware quake with some pretty good manual removal instructions I found online at a place called sunbeltblog.

However one thing it did was hijack my homepage. And even after I got rid of spyware quake by restarting in safe mode, searching thru my system32 folder and deleting a few files and then deleting the program, my homepage remains hijacked. When I go to certain pages with instructions on how to recover a homepage hijack, it blocks those pages too with a little message like you see when, say, a popup is blocked.

Here's where it starts to get peculiar, I checked in internet options and it still says the homepage I want, and when I first open up ie it even goes to that page for a split second. Then it goes to this page http://www.securitysafeguards.net/. So this has got me stumped, I found instructions to search for .hta files on my computer but all it turned up were. 2 windows media player tour exe's. I can still change my desired homepage as in it is not grayed out, but it just doesn't matter what it says in internet options. I have been able to use mozilla just fine it seems unaffected.

Didn't work.

Basically I want to try and avoid using software for this if at all possible. Downloading more software to get rid of software is illogical to me. And in my experience "antispy"ware is just spyware, and I've had much better luck with manual removal in the past. I'm sure there are some registries I need to delete but I don't wanna do that until I'm absolutely certain I'm deleting the right ones.

Don't worry about the double-post, I deleted the other one.
The redirects are to do with the spywarequake infection. We might need to do more but try this first.

Go to Add\Remove Programs and uninstall MyWay.

Run Hijackthis and select "Do a system scan only", place a check by the following entries.

Close all open windows and browsers, and hit "Fix Checked".

Then restart the computer and post a new Hijackthis log, and say how things are now.
