Default Budget Mouse

hi, i'm using an optical wireless mouse from a logitech combo, but the battery dies every two months or so. i'm thinking of switching back to a non-wireless, but not sure what to get. Best if under 30 CDN.

btw, whats the difference between a gaming mouse and a regular optical mouse because i was looking at mx510 and it has 800dpi and i also see some other ones that have the same that are not called a gaming mouse... whats the deal?

anyone heard of i-rocks btw... all their mice are 800dpi

thx

any suggestion are welcome

I got myself a Microsoft Intellimouse Optical Blue at Wal-Mart for US$20 and I love it. Comfortable, precise, very cool. Recommended.

A Microsoft Optical wheel mouse will get you there for $10-15 USD. I've had mine for years and years...still kicking. I've actually moved into 3 houses having this mouse, it's out-lived a few computers as well. Always kept it.

The laser mice have a higher dpi than regular optical mice. This allows for more precision, mostly useful for gaming or graphical editing, not much else. Just stick with a cheaper wireless mouse if you're only looking to do those two things...

a123, if you really like your present mouse, perhaps you could get a set of NiMH batteries and a recharger for under CDN$30, if you use AA or AAA's in it. Something to consider.

a123, i've been in that situation before, and ended up ditching the wireless mouse as well. The battery life issue was annoying, and whenever the batteries would begin to approach the end of their usable life, the mouse would respond differently. I'm sure they've been improved since then, though.

I'm now using the Logitech MX510, and am very happy with it. One of the reasons that it's touted as a gaming mouse is the adjustable sensitivity function. By pressing a button on the mouse, you can adjust between tight precision, for gaming tasks like sniping, and loose precision, for high action scenes. This also has its uses for precise image editing.

For general use, though, any decent optical mouse with a scroll wheel and back/forward buttons should be fine, particularly if it's from a well known manufacturer like logitech or microsoft.
