Default network icon dissapearing!

Recently my "little comuters" icon which tells me I'm on the internet has vanished from the system tray at the botton right. This is the computers that blink when your computer send/recieves info online. I use it to right click--> disconnect from the internet, but it has since dissapeared altogether. I have tried to check/uncheck the "show icon in notification area when connected" box under the connections properties. But it doesn't work. What is really strange is my girlfriends computer is doing the same thing, but the have nothing to do with each other. No file has ever been transferred between the two.

Can someone please tell me how the correct this problem so i can see the icon and disconnect without having to reach behind and pull the phone line out of the wall? Thanks.

Just go into control panel where your connection is and right click and disconnect.

Once you are disconnected then check the box show when connected blah blah..

Then connect to the internet again.

Should be there.

Just go into control panel where your connection is and right click and disconnect. (If it doesn't work)

The trouble is my computer doesn't think i'm even connected. When I go to the CP it shows my connection as disconnected when I am obviously online. The check box is checked, but I don't think it is the prob. This is also why I pull the line out.

Got any ideas? thanks
