i have a compaq presario 700. used it on saturday and it was all good. came to use it yesterday and when you turn it on:
- the 'on' light comes on - it makes just one little sound (the first in the series of sounds it usually makes when its booting up) - and that's it it won't boot up and i cant figure out how to make it. the power lead is plugged in, the battery is in, i've tried different (compatible) power leads etc. do they just give up the ghost overnight sometimes? it is 4 years old but i thought i'd get more than that out of it. is it just compaq? any help appreciated! |

Your display may have went out, laptops are bad for that.
Try hooking it up to a monitor.. and see what happens.

I've had exact the same problem with mine. If it really doesnt make any other sound other than your fan. And the monitor won't work either. I would try replacing your ram. If you have 2 modules i would try taking 1 out first to see if it runs on the other module if it doesnt switch them.
You can find your modules pretty easily if your not a complete fool. And absolutely DON'T use brute force (it's pretty fragile) you can take them out. It's varies between notebooks but it's mostly a simple click sort of system. |
