Here's another homepage problem guys:
Obviously I can't change my homepage to yahoo or msn.com. I installed Norton 2006 to get rid of spyware/viruses but I cannot delete the spyware that causes the 'permanent homepage.' I know the problem is in the iexplorer.exe but Norton doesn't find anything wrong in there. I did some research on here and looked up previous posts and I downloaded hijack this. So here's the log: Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 14:03:45, on 2006.04.08. You may want to print out or make a copy of these instructions before starting, because you will not be able to connect to the internet during most of this fix.
Go to Add\Remove Programs and uninstall ViewpointManager. Download smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop. Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop. Please download, install, and update the free version of Ewido Security Suite:
If you do not already have Ad-Aware SE 1.06 installed, follow these download and setup instructions. Also check for updates: Ad-Aware SE Setup Again, do NOT run a scan yet. Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
R3 - URLSearchHook: AOLTBSearch Class - {EA756889-2338-43DB-8F07-D1CA6FB9C90D} - C:\Program Files\AOL\AOL Toolbar 2.0\aoltb.dll (file missing) R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {20EC3D2D-33C1-4C9D-BC37-C2D500688DA2} - (no file) O2 - BHO: AcroIEHlprObj Class - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll (file missing) O2 - BHO: Nothing - {7a932ed2-1737-4ab8-b84d-c71779958551} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hpEFED.tmp O2 - BHO: ST - {9394EDE7-C8B5-483E-8773-474BF36AF6E4} - C:\Program Files\MSN Toolbar Suite\ST\02.05.0001.1119\en-xu\stmain.dll (file missing) O2 - BHO: MSN Search Toolbar Helper - {BDBD1DAD-C946-4A17-ADC1-64B5B4FF55D0} - C:\Program Files\MSN Toolbar Suite\TB\02.05.0001.1119\en-us\msntb.dll (file missing) O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file) O3 - Toolbar: AOL Toolbar - {DE9C389F-3316-41A7-809B-AA305ED9D922} - C:\Program Files\AOL\AOL Toolbar 2.0\aoltb.dll (file missing) O3 - Toolbar: MSN Search Toolbar - {BDAD1DAD-C946-4A17-ADC1-64B5B4FF55D0} - C:\Program Files\MSN Toolbar Suite\TB\02.05.0001.1119\en-us\msntb.dll (file missing) O3 - Toolbar: Norton AntiVirus - {C4069E3A-68F1-403E-B40E-20066696354B} - C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\NavShExt.dll (file missing) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [OSS] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ossproxy.exe -boot O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NI.UWAS6_0001_N69M0903] "C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\KT23GDA7\WinAntiSpyware2006FreeI nstall[1].exe" -nag /BEFOREINSTALL Close all open windows and hit "Fix checked". Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen. Your desktop and icons will disappear and then reappear again --- this is normal. Wait for the tool to complete and Disk Cleanup to finish --- this may take a while; please be patient. Next, run Ad-aware and perform a full scan. Remove everything found. Now open Ewido Security Suite
Next go to Start -> Control Panel, click Display -> Desktop -> Customize Desktop -> Web -> Uncheck "Security Info" if present. Restart your computer in normal mode. Run the Panda online virus scan at http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm - Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button - A new window will open...click the Check Now button - Enter your Country - Enter your State/Province - Enter your e-mail address and click send - Select either Home User or Company - Click the big Scan Now button - If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it - It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes) - When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan - When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Finally, restart your computer once more, and post a new Hijackthis log, and say how things are now.
