Default Gaming pc for under 1000K...how's this?

edit: sorry about the title, i got mixed between saying $1000 and $1k

What do you guys think of this rig? I was going to add a creative labs 24-bit (extreme music) chip and some sennheisers, but i dont REALLY need them and I could always add on later. Basically I'm wondering about the cpu. I'm pretty sure the RAM and MOBO will do good (I only say good because I've heard that DFI's SLI boards arent as nice as their standard ones), i'm more wondering about the cpu and perhaps the cooling (i will be o/cing it)

Here we are so far:

Coolermaster centurion case (think the cooling will be sufficient?):

Samsung DVD burner:

WD caviar 250Gb SE SATA3g:

DFI Lanparty UT NF4 SLI

Antec TrupowerII 550W:

AMD athlon 54 3700+ San Diego
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103539

G.Skill DDR2 533 2x1Gb Dual channel (runs at 4-4-4-12...which seems low, but does it matter as much when it's pc4200? Probably a stupid question. I just know that i'll be overclocking and don't want to have to 'slow down 'my ram alot by using dividers). :

XFX 7900GT extreme (@ 520/1500 stock)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150139

all that added together is like $1100, which might be a little much, but prices may go down (i'll be buying it in a few months probably). I don't know alot about san diego chips, i was initially just going to go with a venice. is the 3800+ a venice? Anyways, some input would be much appreciated. thanks!

Your motherboard and RAM are incompatible. You can't use DDR2 RAM with AMD boards (at least not until AM2 comes out).

And yes, the 3800+ (regular, not X2) is a Venice.

Everything looks good except for the RAM. You'll need DDR400 thru DDR550. Pick yourself up some G.Skill DDR500 so you'll have room to overclock.

Otherwise, it looks good to me.

Well, when your overclocking, you want to keep the divider as close to 1:1 as possible. Using DDR500 or 550 gives you more overhead so you can keep the 1:1 ratio and not use dividers. He mentioned in his post he doesn't want to use dividers.

If he uses DDR500, then when he puts that memory in its going to automatically downclock it to DDR400. It will only be good if you raise the FSB alot, and get the memory to DDR450+.

well i have to pump my ddr400 RAM down to ddr333 or ddr300 to get it to actually overclock, so i'd like to get RAM that will already have plenty of room to work with (so i technically wont have to lower it).

Encore, i've had some great experience with my coolermaster, and if you look closely, that is actually a $45 case.

That's ok because he's going to overclock. My RAM is rated as DDR500 but right now, it's running at DDR556
