Default BenQ Lightscribe Problems

On June 25th of last year, I purchased a BenQ IDE DVD Burner with Lightscribe (Model DW1625) from Newegg.com. The burner performed flawlessly until a short time ago. Now, the tray will open and close erratically, especially upon computer startup. The eject button may or may not function, or there is a extended delay before operating. And, it will not read a CD. I’ve downloaded the latest driver, I’ve changed IDE and power cables, and I’ve used compressed air to blow out any dust that might have been inside (however the unit was clean). I don’t know what else to do and can not think of any explanation why it would just all of a sudden stop working correctly. Any ideas?

Haha, I had a machine who's drive started randomly opening and closing. It was an OLD beast and we just tossed that drive...

I would suspect a hardware problem with the drive. There's probably not much you could do. My suggestion would be to try and find some firmware upgrades for it and see if that might fix it. However, it could make it worse if say the drives doesn't complete the update...

I THINK newegg offers some sort of warrantry on many of their products for up to a year. Look into that...
