Default My computer has slowed....

Hi i have a computer and when i first got it, it was fast but now its slow, it like takes 5 minutes 2 log off user on windows XP and when i log in it like goes all slow and stuff and it takes a while for internet page 2 open, it has a 3.40 GHZ and a 1 GB ram, how can i make it fast again thanks!

its most likel;y a virus see what i am doing is using m,y old pc for the internet and my new one wil be gaming only

Ok go to start>run>msconfig>click the startup tab> uncheck all the programs you dont want to boot up when you login on your account>press apply.

go 2 http://www.techguy.org/, register 2 their site, img going 2 send u a link 2 HiJackThis, download it 2 your computer, go through he setup, click the 1st option, "Full System Scan"? or something, but it's the 1st option, notepad will pop-up with your log in it, save it 2 your Desktop, go 2 that link, get 2 the Forums, click either the Windows XP Forum, or the Security Forum, and post your Log in there, it's a computer site, and they are really good there, i go there 4 all my computer problems, it's also free, i got 2 get the link 2 HiJackThis, i'll be right back.
