had exactly the same problem with my SB-Live, was fine everywhere apart from in games when i used to get a really bad hissing every now and then.
Tried doing all sorts, unplugging and reseating, trying it in different ports, replacing drivers etc. In the end I just picked up and Audigy 2 from ebay for £20 and problem solved

Well if you have AC97 integrated sound, it would help getting the newest available drover off the net. I had the exact same problem and nothing seemed to be working. About a month ago, I downloaded the newest driver available from the soundcard manufacturer (Realtek in my case) and it solved the problem. Give it a shot. I can now play games without that horrible noise

ok i dowloaded and installed the cmedia ac9739 driver from cmedia.com and i am still getting the annoying popping crackling noise. i might just have to spend some money and buy a new sound card but what im afraid of is it not being the card and if i buy a new one the same thing might happen. i dont want to have to take it to a place to pay them to tell me it was something simple. if i have to is a sound card easy to install?
thanks for all the replies |

simply plug the sound card into an empty slot and your pretty much away. It will usually come with a CD to install any needed software but windows will pretty much do everything for you
