miniDV video camera use as a webcam

hey, i really need some help with my webcam. I use my miniDV camera as a webcam, and when i connect it and use Moviemaker to capture video from webcam. the computer freezes and goes to a blue screen telling me to restart and un-install any faulty software.
any ideas what the problem could be.

Have you tried using a different port(if available), or re-installing the software that came with it?
