Default Desktop won't turn on (Please help)

Hi there, have just recieved a desktop from a friend who needs help. The desktop just won't turn on. It's completely dead.

They woke up one night (after having left the pc on) to hear it clicking and a strong burning smell.

I have opened up the pc and nothing visible is wrong.

The most I have managed to do is when connecting power to the machine, a faint clicking can be heard.

Any ideas anyone?

Yes. Put a new or used PSU in it and see if it works.

If not its probably the motherboard, or ram something in that nature.

yeah that would be a good thing to try. if you can manage remove the heatsink on the cpu and see if there are burn marks there. if they smelt burning, something had to have fried!
