do you have Windows XP with service pack 2? i used to have the very same problem... that turned out to be the cause.
also could be the motherboard, but i doubt it.

Hmm just incase you havent checked this thread:
Hdd 101 section 4 in that thread. i just bought a new hdd recently too. i wasnt running windows xp sp2, and it only read as 120gb . from memory i upgraded nearly everything. bios, windows, drivers, chipset drivers etc. then it all worked out good =) |
