Default Inspiron crack

I have an Dell Inspiron 1150, and I just took notice that on the backside of the monitor right above the hinges, there is a crack Its not the LCD, just the plastic housing. After contacting dell, they told me my warranty does not cover accidental damage and that I need to contact the out of warranty department. This is going to be quite an expensive fee for a small crack..I was wondering if there is any other possible way that this can be fixed for not so much an expensive price?

Is it at all possible to remove the parts from this laptop and put them into a desktop?
