Do you know the Windows Media Centre can only support 2GB RAM?

I was too ignorant to believe the product catalog of HP computer m7308 that 4 GB RAM could be supported by the system which came with the Windows Media Centre. I bought additional 2GB RAM on top of the 512 MB RAM supplied with HP. Before I bought the RAM, I called HP what type of RAM I should purchase but they didn't tell me the limitation of Windows. The catalog did not mention anything on this either. Any comments?

M7308 uses AMD Athlon 64 3400+ runs on all-in-one motherboard that comes with integrated ATI Radeon Xpress 200 hypermemory Graphics. I have replaced the internal display card with a Winfast PX6600 TD.

i think windows supports 3gb of ram but lots of programs only support 2gb of ram

its harder for the ops to support over 2 dims thats y u see people with 2 gig ram not 4 and 4 dims also slow ur cpu and ur mobo cant manage it some do beter than others but thast just the way things are

Wonder-since you alread bought the ram, just experiment with the max amount of ram you can stick in your computer. Windows x64 can support more then 3GB. You should be fine because windows XP only allows up to 3gb, and you are running 2.5GB , so you are in the clear.

Motoxrude- Thanks. The PC doctor I used to diagnose the system told me that the max RAM can be supported is 2048MB. This was confirmed with HP. All along, HP is selling this series of systems with the emphasis of windows media centre and I just bought this in Feb. It would be ridiculous to go for windows x64 just to utilize this extra 512M RAM.

I wrote emails to HP several times and I even wrote to their General Manager. However, for almost a month, there was no offical reply from them. I just got a few calls from a so call senior officer saying the hardware could indeed support 4GB RAM. Can anyone of you suggest what I should do to press HP to do something. I am just asking them to compensate for the 512 MB RAM. They should at least give me a written reply!!

Absolutely amazing. How could HP behave like this.
Since you bought the Windows Media Centre with HP, I think you have a case. You may lodge a complaint to the Consumer Council or consider filing to the Small Claims Tribunal.

I think you might want to read the fine print....even Microsofts and you "might" just be surprised.
