Default Is my Dual DVD burner kicking the bucket?

Lately my dvd burner have been acting up. This started to happend after i got a bad batch of DVD blank -r medias, Got a new batch and it is working fine , It had never failed to burn a PS2 game backup ISO, but when ever i go try to burn a dvd data file the burning process just dies in the middle, laser off track. It failed three times alread and don't want to try another one just yet.

Is there a way to check the dvd burner to see if it's about the kick the bucket? Any software outthere that i can use?
