Question Concern with my mobo

I recently installed my motherboard into my new case. Being my first install and not reading about it, I screwed the mobo right to the case. I did not use and stand offs. Now nothing was plugged into the mother board. But when I turned on the power, it went on and then off. The motherboard was shorting out. I reinstalled the mobo with the stand offs. Now it will turn on and stay on.

But will that mess up my motherboard?
