Default Bad speakers, good sub

A question about my speakers: Creative I-Trigue 330

The subwoofer is fine, but the tall speakers (see picture in link) have fallen over so many times the sound is scratchy. It does it really subtly, so it is incredibly annoying in music and games. The sub is fine though.

Since the speakers plug seperatly into the subwoofer with standard computer audio plugs, could I get 2 different speakers and plug them in? Assuming they use the same setup? (two audio jacks in the sub)

If all else fails, what is a good 2.1 speaker system I could get for less then 40$? Ebay is ok, or if any of you have a set.

The 2.0 ones on newegg look sort of bleh. Also, some have bass, which could (?) interfere with the sub I have now. What brands are good? I have heard logitech, Creative, and Klipsch make good ones. (not great with speakers)
