Question farcry just exits...

every now and then during a game of farcry, it just closes... goes back to windows! i've turned off all other open programs like outlook and msn, that i think might be interrupting due to regularly checking email etc, but it still happens.
I've haven't noticed any pattern or regularity to when it happens either - it doesn't happen when i shoot something, when i pause/resume, when theres a lot of action going on... it just happens at random. Once it happened just as the computer clock hit 10pm, but i think that was coincidence.
I've got patches up to 1.33, no mods... and it is a genuine copy.

anyone got any theories??
cheers,
Paul

I've heard that people have had "too fast" computers which caused Far Cry to stutter. There's one on this forum who experienced this, he found a solution.

Whenever I have had programs just close for "no reason", either to Windows or to a black screen and reboot, it was due to either an overheating CPU or my swapfile was too small.

i thought computers just lock up if the cpu overheats...
I've only got the stock heatsink/fan setup, but i'm not overclocking so it shouldn't be overheating anyway.
whats a swapfile?

hope this helps...

I had the exact same problem but on different games on this computer. I had a fanless gf4mx440, when playing cs it just closes leading me back to desktop, it also happens randomly playing cs. When playing WoW, after 1-2min playing the game it closes right away. I than baught a Radeon 9600pro and solved all the problem.

You have a 7800GTX and i don't see how that card can't handle Farcry.

and the game was a freebie with that card, so they wouldn't give out games that the card cant even handle... infact it plays it perfectly on the highest resolution and settings

whats a swapfile?
Your swapfile is what's known as Virtual Memory. This is a file on your hard drive that Windows uses when all your RAM is filled up and more memory is needed. If your swapfile/Virtual Memory is too small (either you've fixed the size to something too small, or you have a nearly full hard drive with an automatically-maintained swapfile), you'll run out of space for all the programs you want to run and your PC will crash, or reboot, or give you a Blue Screen of Death.

2Gb of ram should be plenty... and i'm only using 60% of my harddrive - so the swapfile has plenty of room if the ram isn't enough...

anyone else have any explanations why farcry just quits??
