Driver is just the start of the problems with AMD/ATi, they really lack grunt. If you want high performance then stay away from them.

Last time i checked, nvida has their share of driver problems. As do all, with the 3870 and 8800GT being new they are going to be far from mature.

You want to say the 8800GT "leaves it caughing in the dust", i think not. Oh wait, unless you call 2fps a a whooping, and every benchmark you see was taken with the outdated drivers which just suck. I decided for the 3870 on many reasons, and some being the price, OC potential, cooler, and the picture quality.

Also crossfire 3870's, "leave SLI 8800GT's caughing in its dust".

If you want high performance, stay away from nvida.. drivers are only the start of their problems ...

Dude, get real.. your sounding like a fanboy in rage, i dont know what you get out of trying to bash amd/ati. Jump into reality.

PS: When i change over to intel, shouldn't be long ill be going crossfire!

Yeah Sli 8800GT performance is not as crash hot as HD3870. But in the single card tests the HD3870 really lags behind. Thatguy16 you are only quoting the stock speeds, why don't you have a look at overclocked performance. Why don't you jump into reality, most gamers like to overclock, who would turn down free performance? I'm not a nvidia fan boy, I like nvidia because they performance better than AMD/ATi. I had a X800GT and 9600 before. ATi's overclocking headroom is just atrocious. They are cheap but does not represent good value for money.

If you didn't know, I'm neither a ATi or nVidia fan I proudly own a HD3850, and I love it. (Most of the time...). But all my other cards, nVidia. I have had far less problems with nVidia then ATi. The ATi card gave me BSODs (at times...).

One of my problems, on ATi cards. An MSI X1550 and a Sapphire HD3850 (both less than a month old). They have the exact same problems. With everything in BF2 on high, including resolution and anti aliasing, the game will stop at 46% and just shut down, over and over. I finally had to use older drivers. New and CD drivers just didn't work out, both cases.

Isn't the HD3870 just a little bit more expensive than the HD3850? I would have thought given a choice of only those two cards the HD3870 would represent better value, if the Nvidia cards were not in the equation.

The 3850 is the best budget card honestly for the money, i think its $170. And the 3870 is $240-260.

oscaryu1, thats weird your having those problems. When you installed the new drivers. did you uninstall the old ones or use driver cleaner? What drivers are you using?

ATI has better 3DMark06 scores... If in single card tests the card lags behind, why do the benchmarks say ~15FPS at maximum? And the 'free' performance that you are referring to the 8800GT with, was actually ~$300 at the time and the 3870 was $220-240. So if you want to pay $80 for a raise in an average of 8FPS, you go right ahead, then when can talk about your choice Either way, ATI is better Price : Performance...

You are saying that you aren't a Nvidia fanboy, but you're putting down Nvidia's competition?

Imageshack is being sluggish... Does Google have img hosting?

Wait, your saying the new ATI cards are not good overclockers? your joking right? The 38XX's are overclocking monsters. So were the 2900's. Even more so with the new 55nm cores on the 3850/3870.

About the benchmarks, i would love to see an updated comparison with NEW drivers, all the benchmarks you see now were benched with the early drivers, that sucked. The small difference between the two could be made up by a more mature driver. And your talking what, 5fps? benchmarks, hmm... i look around, the GT wins some, the 3870 wins some..

I want to see the new drivers, too. I think ATI sees that their hardware isn't recognized to be as good, I think they are trying to make up with better drivers. I still don't like Catalyst Control Center, so I use a bit of common sense and don't use it
