what is the meaning of data redundancy and how does it affect the operation of a database

Data reduncey is when a code phrase is repeated more than once, and I beleive file compression takes advantage of it.

data redundancy is when there is a repetition of data within the database. this can be done either by users entering the same data without them knowing it. It could also refer to the backup of your data.
