Default Backlight or Inverter?

I Recently acquired a very very VERY old Latitude cpi Laptop. Was working fine where I bought it, brought it home on about a 20 minute walk, went to switch it on and the screen was barley visible. If I shine a bright light on it,
I can just make out the screen. Can’t be sure whether it’s the inverter or backlight. Only information I can go on is that it cut out strait away. There
wasn’t any flickering or half dark screen, it simply cut out. Anyone know which one it could be?

Cheers

Sounds like it could be the backlight or it could be a loose cable. The only way to tell for sure is to open it up and take a gander. However if you're not that experienced with laptops/computers in general I suggest giving it to someone who knows what they're doing.

Those wires short out all the time. It's a very common problem with laptops, which is why I try to only close my screen when I plan to take my laptop off somewhere

My dad's laptop is really bad, but sometimes moving the screen back and forth a few times will get a solid connection again.

I had a look inside the other day, didn’t get too far before I gave up and thought I’m not really the person to be doing this (not much experiance with laptops ). I’ll take another look and see if I can maybe push in a couple of wires or otherwise I’ll seek an expert

Thanks for your help
