I want to get some files from my desktop over to a lap top....so my question is how do I connect them so i can do that.

Beyond

are they both over the same network?

Beyond

if they are, do the following:

1) find the folder on the computer that contains the file(s) you're wanting to send. right click the folder and click properties. click the sharing tab. enable "share this file on the network". in the box that is enabled, type something that you will remember.

2) find the ip of your computer. to do this, click start>run, type cmd. here, type ipconfig. remember the ip address that is given.

3) get on your other computer that you want to send the file to. click start>run, and type \\(insert ip address here)\(insert what you typed in the box that i told you to remember)

it will open up the folder that contains the files, and you will be able to drag them onto your computer.
