helmet cam

hey, i want to get a helmet cam but my mini dv camera doesnt have an imput. i was looking at some wireless ones and the one i wanted has a sample video on their site and the quality isnt good. is this just because its upoloaded to the internet or because its just a bad quality cam. also i think theres some helmet cams that hook into a box that it records the video to but its not a camcorder. does anyone know of a good wireless cam or the other kind thats not to expensive ? t

What's the one that you had wanted? Could you link us to the website with the poor-quality video? What do you consider 'not too expensive' - i.e. what's your budget?

Well I can tell you the video is poor quality because it has been uploaded to the internet and integrated in a flash presentation. If you take a look at the specs, it's got a resolution of 640x480, which is as good as VHS and standard non-HD tv.

The framerate is a little low, at 15fps. However if you're going to edit the footage, that figure can always be increased with software such as Dynapel's MotionPerfect. I've linked some demo videos. It fills in inbetween frames to make the motion smooth as silk. I use it myself.

To be honest, I don't see why that's not at all suitable, apart from the 15fps framerate. In fact, I'd quite like to get myself one of those...

Are you looking for something with a full 29.97fps?

im not really sure what the fps does ? does it just make it smoother and less choppy?
if so how choppy would it be at 15?

FPS stands for Frames Per Second, and is just that, the number of still pictures that are strung together within a second to make video. Whilst the human eye can distinguish between frame rates up to about 60fps, anything above 25fps is considered smooth, and in fact 25fps is what tv is broadcast at in many countries.

15fps is fair, I certainly wouldn't call it choppy, and unless you've got a good eye for video, you may not even notice it's on the slow side. Just do a google search for 'video' and '15fps' and you'll find some examples if you want to see for yourself. To be honest, it takes SD memory, and I'm not sure what the limit on the speed of that format is, it may be that 15fps is all you can get.

hey, i got the helmet cam and the quality seems good but it isnt as smooth as other videos and i downloaded the trial version of motion perfect and whenever i try it the output video just stays on the first frame the whole time and nothing happens. do you have any idea why it would do this?

I'm not quite sure whether you're saying the output video freezes in motion perfect or whether it freezes when playing in another media player. Either way, I think it's probably a codec issue, and of course you need to make sure you're importing AVI files, that's the only type of file the program accepts.

It'd come up with an error if you don't select a video compressor, but it seem you are able to at least convert the file, just that it won't play. It may be helpful installing a codec pack such as this one, it'll allow you to play all files. If that doesn't help, perhaps you'd like to email me a short segment of video (under 10MB) and I'll play around with it so I can work out what's going wrong and tell you the right procedure. Motion Perfect can be a bit tempremental, but when it works it's pretty good.
