say if i'd buy a dell e1505 and i got it with the core solo processor (to save money)... could i theoretically put a core duo into it when i got sufficient funds to do it? would it work?

It really depends on the motherboard... I know most motherboards that support AMD, for example, also support duel core. However, I've heard some systems, like Compaqs, don't support upgrading to duel core.
