Unhappy Help Please!!

Hello everyone! I`m new to the thread, as well as someone who has no technical knowledge whatsoever. I have a laptop, and when the pc loads up, none of the icons, or the task bar is visible. I was told to start the pc in safe mode, and then restart it from there. Well, everything is visible in safe mode, but when I restart it, the icons and task bar is still missing. Can someone help me? Thanks in advance!

Google hijackthis, and load it on there, then run it under safe mode. Post the log here. I have a pretty strong feeling it's simply got some program/virus/spyware that's causing it to lock up before windows totally loads.

Also, while in safe mode, you could run Spybot search and destory Adaware, and AVG or any other virus scan. All those are free and easilly found though google should you not have them installed.

Default Thank You

Thank you so much for your help, but I don`t have any of those programs on my pc, and while in safe mode, will I be able to access the net to download them? Once again, thanks.

How do you access the internet? Make sure you select "Safe Mode with networking" when you boot. If you have a wireless adapter, it should work.

Default Thanks!!

Thanks for writing Bo. My computer is Windows 98, so I only seen the option for Safe Mode. I did a scan via AdWare while in Safe Mode, but the results are still the same. I access the net using a second, older laptop that I have, but the one that`s giving me problems WAS more reliable. lol

Oh, so you do not have the internet on the computer with the problem? That makes it interesting....have you recently loaded any software onto it? Because I don't know how you would get a virus/spyware if you aren't connected to the internet...

Default Thanks again

The computer that i`m having the problem with was the one I was using regularly, but since the problem, I connected my older computer to the internet.
