Exclamation Worth upgrade?

Hey guys,

Please be honest with me now...

Do you realy think its worth upgrading my current computer (In siggy) so that it will play updated games such as doom,Far cry?

Im talking like 2Gb memory,dedicated graphics card.etc.
Or do you think my comps too old and and my good old Sempron will cause bottleneck in gaming?

Please as i said be honest,I know my computer is all that great.
Thanks

Just get a somewat good graphics card and ur good for gaming
but not crazy good games like doom3

If ur going for games that are really good, like crazy good then i would recomend getting a new pc with latest technology. that way it should last you for years to come.

The first thing to really upgrade that board to it's potential would be to locate an Atholon XP3200+ Barton cored cpu along with a pair of 1gb Kingston, OCZ performance dimms. The ATI line has a few 256mb and 512mb AGP cards to look over. But you would be half way to a new case by the time you had this one ready for gaming. I'm looking to replace the Socket A system here in early 2007 with an AMD Opteron equipped case with at least 2gb of ram to start off with. That will see a 512mb PCI-Express video card along with the rest.

Yeah it will. I can play farcry on my computer just fine(i have a sempron 2300+). Just make sure you get a good graphics card. Does your mobo support PCE-E, AGP or PCI?

That's an older Socket A board that runs an AGP 8x/4x card. Adding memory and a faster cpu would be the move for a good number of the games out. Many of those love to grab memory with nothing running in the background.

Hi,

Thanks for your replies.

Its just that if you add all the things up together what i need such as maybe 2 sticks of 1Gb memory (My mobo maximum is 2Gb)and Graphics card and a new Psu.

Wouldnt it be better to justs save what i would have spent on this current computer and get a new computer?

Upgrading your RAM would be a help, but you would need to update so many other things too, so I'd go with buying a new computer...

If you were moving up one or two items on a relatively new system you would hold off until you were planning a new build. But if you start dumping money like a bucket of water into an older system it would be costly when you soon after decided to go for new. With the fast turnover in new hardwares you would want to keep that in mind.

Well thanks for all replies eveyone.

Does anyone have any idea of what should be in my next system?

Im gonna be having my next computer custom built by my causin but obviusly he needs to know whats gonna be in it.

I wont be having it buily yet (Maybe around about christmas time) and i also will probably have a budget of maybe around £700-800

It will need to be a gaming computer so graphics & Memory are a big issue here.

Also should i get one of those Opteron processors?Ive heard that many people are now building Opteron systems for gaming?Or am i wrong?
