better explanation
when i right click on my desktop, it doesn't give me options to change properties, its like clicking on a web page. when i right click and select "backward link" there is a google search page and a french forum! here's what the link is: page html coinser sur le bureau - Virus et assimilés - FORUM ...

Control Panel -> Display -> Desktop tab -> Customize Desktop -> Web tab -> Disable everything there
That's what it is on WInXP. Earlier versions you just have to uncheck an "Active Desktop" checkbox somewhere in the Display dialog, I believe.
