Default External HD problem. Need urgent help!!

Hey there
I'm not sure if this was ever posted before, but I need some serious help here. I know I should've searched but I'm just in a bad mood right now since I'm about to lose 80gigs worth of music and precious data on an external hard disk.

Here goes, I got an external HD, not the ones u buy and then case them, this one's a portable one, quite the size of my hand really. it's an 80 gb HD. The problem here is that a friend was figgiting around with it while it was in a plastic bag (a small plastic bag that u get at the mart) and accidently the HD in the plastic bag got a bang on the wall, not sure how hard the bang was but im pretty sure it was either on one end of the HD or one of its edges.

So i just got home and I connected it to my laptop, but nothing shows up on my computer. I've got a small green light on the external HD that shows its on, which i think is a good sign (isn't it?). My laptop recognized it once and prompted me that a new hardware is being installed blah blah blah and it did detect it as a usb external hard disk, but it still wont show up on my explorer or my computer so basically it knows its there but it wont show me the icon in my computer.

Any solutions people?

Thanks alot

P.S: feel free to link me to any stickies, forums, sites...etc.
