Default Conroe Board!

Ok, from what I have heard conroe boards need a specific version of the chipset, labeled 975 XBX. The board, here, has that chipset. Supposedly you just need to make sure it has bios revision 304.

Can someone back me up on this? Also, if you were to get one with bios 303 or whatever is right below 304, would it be as simple as a Bios update for conroe support?

EDIT: Plus a nice 100 $ rebate with an X1900XT that has another 30$ rebate makes it a very tempting buy for me.

What are you planning on putting in it in the meantime? That seems a bit pricey, by the time you need it the board will probably be around $150.

Honestly, i dont know what exact chipset it needs. But on some sites they say that it's going to use the Intel 975x chipset, but they dont know if current motherboards will support it.

I would get a Pentium D 805 and OC the hell out of it. I guess you're right about the board going down, but would it really be that cheaper after 6 months? Look at the 7800 GTX, its been out for about 8 months (?) and hasn't gone down much. But its a GPU, so it might be different.

When they first came out they were around $750, now there about $450 if you can find one.

That much? I thought they were less. Strange...but anyway, from what I've read the 8000 series won't come out until next yearish, and the rebates I've found on some other stuff is pretty good. Its like 200-250 less then what you'd pay for a fairly high end system.

Well you can take your chances and get it, but as far as i know no one knows for sure if current 975x boards will be able to support Conroe.
