Hi all,
I posted this last week... Tx for the feedback...!! But I am still unsure what to do next. I was recently using my Fathers desktop computer to make some downloads.. I downloaded a pretty nasty virus which shut his computer down everytime I opened Firefox or Explorer.. He has gone away for the week.. So I decided to reformat the whole comp.. I have cleaned both drives.. The installation seemed like a sucess until I tried opening sound files and I got these messages... 'SOUND RECORDER CANNOT PLAY AS NO SOUND DEVICE IS INSTALLED'..... 'THERE ARE NO ACTIVE MIXER DEVICES AVAILABLE... and so on.. ?!!! CIF SINGLE CHIP ?!!! MULTIMEDIA AUDIO CONTROLLER ?!!! MULTIMEDIA CONTROLLER ?!!! OTHER PCI BRIDGE DEVICE ?!!! PCI INPUT DEVICE ?!!! SM BUS CONTROLLER I opened up his comp and got the Motherboards name which is ASUS... I am unsure what to do next..??? I got as far as here http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us Now what do I download and what do I do with what I download to get rid of the ?!!! CIF SINGLE CHIP ?!!! MULTIMEDIA AUDIO CONTROLLER ?!!! MULTIMEDIA CONTROLLER ?!!! OTHER PCI BRIDGE DEVICE ?!!! PCI INPUT DEVICE ?!!! SM BUS CONTROLLER In device manager?? Tx so much!! Daniel

You need to know the model number of the motherboard

but.. its definitely your sound drivers.. do you know if his sound is coming from an onboard card(like on the motherboard itself) or is it by itself(like pci card). If its by itself in its own slot.. make sure you have the driver for it. check the stacks of cd's if any to see if anything looks like it.. if not.. you might have to find out what type of card it is and go and download it from their manufacture site. If its onboard.. .then if there is a motherboard driver cd.. it should be in there.. if not.. you might have to search for a motherboard sound card driver for your ASUS. That program that was listed. does it tell you what model was the motherboard?
