Sound not working on a download PLS HELP!

i am pretty sure that i need a codec but i cant remember which one and where tonget it?
Can anyone help???

What type of download are you having trouble playing? and what player are you having a problem playing the download with? are the two first questions to ask since you didn't provide any detailed info.

questoins:

is that downloaded file the only one that does not have sound? do other files you have on your computer, when played have sounds?

what is the extension of the downloaded file? it'll help better determine your coded needed, if any.

is your sound card readily working with its drivers and such.
