driver copy
hello all,
I have some problems with computer and i want toformat it, the problem is that, I have lost the driver CD for the sound card, so can I copy the driver from my computer to somewhere???

XP is pretty good about having drivers for most common sound cards... However, your best bet would be to just find the drive from the manufacturer's website.

well, when I format my PC and download the XP, the soundcard is not installed automatically, but I have to download it from the CD........
So, could I copy the driver files from the XP now (as it is running), and paste them on the new fresh installation of the XP

When you are booting with a fresh copy of XP the hardware detection will ask for drivers for the hardwares that are detected at that time such as those needed to run the video and sound cards. For the sound you have to go to the manufacturer's support site to download an update which when opened should see the needed drivers installed at that time. If there is no sound heard after this you would go into the device manager and right click on the yellow marked listings under sound and game controllers or in the "other devices" section to select your model card.
Upon right clicking at that listing you would choose the update driver option to have Windows install those for you after browsing to the folder where the drivers are now found. Once the correct driver name is chosen pressing the enter key then sees Windows copy the drivers and makes them active. What make and model card are you running? |

...why not just download the drivers from the internet...? I mean, technically you COULD copy the drivers, but why go though the trouble when you could probably find an install that'd set it all up for you in about 5 minutes?

aha,
but the problem is that I dont have at internet for that PC, so, the installation from the site of teh manufacture download files which can I move them into a cD, right???

If you have a cd writer like a cd-r/rw drive you can burn them to a cd-r so that it can be read on any cd rom drive. Once Windows is reinstalled those can even be copied off of the cd into a temporary folder on the drive to open there. You just have to know the make nad model to locate the correct update for that model card.
