Default books on operating system concepts

hi, i am currently taking a module name operating system in U. this module is heavily base on the book modern operating systems by andrew s.tanenbaum. truefully, i am having a hard time taking this module cause its very abstract. talk about deadlock , paging and so forth and i am having difficulties understanding the book . can anyone recommend me a book that is dummy proof and easy to absorb pertaining to operating system concepts. will be helpful if anyone has the pdf or doc on the solution exercises of the book cause the teacher doenst give us the solution for the exercises he gave to us. hiaz....
