Default com port and wireless network

I bought a brand new laptop before christmas. Now I am facing two problems with this laptop. I hope someone here will help in here.
First of all I want to use this laptop to download the software to my free to air receiver but it always failed me, is that anyway can fix this problem.
Secondly, my wireless net is just suck!!!! I even phoned to the Toshiba and they still can't solve my problem. Please advise.

What do you mean the "free to air receiver"
I am assuming the wireless router to your wireless card?
