North Bridge?

I think that my north bridge may be overheating, because it has no heatsink (it fell off) There is no way for me to check the temp, because of this stupid OEM computer, but if I touch it, it burns my finger. What symptoms will I get if it is overheating?

As a general rule of thumb nothing works very well, the system will be unstable.

I know that it should go back

I'm not quite that stupid.

The motherboard broke. There were 2 "upside down U's" that the heatsink clipped into, and one broke off, so there is no way to keep it on there. (I have tried duct tape already)

You can get thermal epoxy to hold a heatsink on, just don't try to take it off after you glue it on.

But do I really need it? My system is perfectly stable, I run it 24/7, and it hasn't crashed in months.

yeah, it'll keep the board alive longer and it slows alot of stuff down when its hot

Is this a special kind of glue, or can I just use a regular epoxy? Because I have some epoxy glue and some GOOP here at the house, and I don't feel like going out to get something else and spend money on this crappy compaq piece of poop

I know you're not stupid. I never thought that was the case. I apologize if that was the message you thought I was trying to say. Don't forget, man, that other people will see your questions and our answers. OTHER people might be stupid, or feel stupid.

What I tried to put across (but failed because occasionally I am the stupid one here) was that PC makers try to cut corners every way they can to save even a penny per unit, and only install stuff that is absolutely necessary. If they put a heatsink on something, then even the PC maker figured that it was vital to have it. They don't put anything on it they don't have to.
