Question Erroneous hardware detection - Win XP pro

After trying to install a new driver and ASPI for my cd-rw as per manufacturers instructions I am getting phantom hardware detection.
Every timer I turn on I get the speech bubble telling me new printer detected, twice?. I then get another telling me my cd-rw is not properly installed and auto-start of the hardware wizard.
Everything works as it should, and I can just ignore the prompts, but it annoying and shouldn't be happening. I'm sure this problem has been posted before, but can't find it.
Can anyone help?

I'm not sure what the previous response was but i'd say you should go to the control pannel, view system information, go to hardware and choose "Device manager" then find the hardware that's not installed properly, install new drivers and update the device, then delete the printer it's supposedly detecting from the hardware list

Thanks
