I have a Toshiba satellite A25 S207 and it comes with a cd burner/dvd player...well i went and bought a DVD burner and put it in and when i turn on the laptop it seem like it freeze up then after about 3-5 minutes it would give me a ...IDE error and it would boot up but when i go to MY Computer, the drive is not there!?!?! BUT if i put the OEM one back in and restart it it would boot up with no problem at all! Then once the laptop is on i would pull the OEM one out and put the DVD burner in it would show up on MY Computer and it would work! But once i restart it it would freeze up and i would wait for the 3-5 minutes...boom...IDE error then it would boot up but again the drive is nowhere to be found! Does anyone here know why it is doing this? I am running on window XP pro....

My guess is the drive just isn't compatable with the laptop... I don't know exactly how picky they are, but I have heard of similar problems. As for swapping them while it's running...eh, those things really aren't meant to be hot-swapable... Will it burn DVDs when you do that?
Um, something else, perhaps there's something in the BIOS that needs to be changed?
