Well can someone help me with this prob.
Intro I reformatted my hard drive yesterday and installed windows XP on it. the XP CD works fine i know it does. I was asked for driver.cab. so after all the installations were complete i got the Driver.cab from another computer running XP and put it were it should be placed. i have installed the drivers etc, office and "Anti vir". thats it. Prob Well a couple of times now it has booted into windows, shown the taskbar and icons and then shown the BSOD. it doesnt show it long enough for me to take a photo or record the message. i am not over clocking anything in my PC and it works a couple of days ago. But whats causing this problem? Can someone help.

Need to see whats on the BSOD, any chance you could video tape it and slowframe to the BSOD then pause? Can you explain more about the driver.cab situation?

driver.cab press enter esc to skip f8 to exit setup. so i pressed skip and wrote down the name of the .cab missing. then i got a driver.cab from my sisters computer (running xp also) and copied it to the right directory. i dont think this is the problem thats causing it tho. also when i same back from school today it looked as if it had been restarted, there was a message saying slave drive error press f1 to continue, this is all it said and thats all i did. any one know what happened. it never came up with that before. ill see if the BSOD comes up again then i will write very fast of roughly what it says. what do i need to write down if it appears again?

when i get this stupid screen i want to start a new task (explorer) but taskmanager doesn't load. when i boot in safe mode i cant uninstall norton system works, antivirus, live update. the reason i want to uninstall this due to the fact of this was the program i last installed, so i recon this is the problem. but to make the problem worse. i cant uninstall it in safe mode??? plz plz plz plz help

So before you installed norton on the re-formatted HDD there didnt seem to be any error's or BSOD? ...I think there is a way to remove norton through DOS.. anyone heard of this before?

In regards to writing down what is seen on the BSOD, if you could possibly write down the system process.
e.g. = The problem seems to be caused by the following file: (this bit)SPCMDCON.SYS Then can you write down the STOP code it will look like this: *** STOP: 0x00000050 That will help us understand why you are recieveing the BSOD. Also how confident are you at using the Windows Recovery Console? Thanks Hellbreather.

i am a quite advanced xp user so i am very confident with the console but i am going to try it for two days and ill post back any problems i encounter as for the porcesses heres a pic,
the explorer prob has now been fixed along with the drive error but i thing the BSOD was due to the LED screen i have on the front of my case, when i looked at it the light was on but no writing.
