Default Windows Vista Beta 1/2 Install

I have a Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz Processor, Asus 5v 800-MX mobo, 1GB Ram, Seagate 40GB harddrive. I'm trying to install Windows Vista and just test it to see what it's all about, but with the system locks clean up as soon as it goes through the copying files screen and gets to the Install/Repair Windows Vista screen. No mouse pointer, keyboard stops responding. Nothing. All I can do is reboot and go through the whole process again. Installs XP Pro perfectly. Anyone with any ideas?

try just waiting, when i installed vista it took forever(2-3 hours), and during that time stuff would just stop responding occasionally, patience is the key here

Weird, when one of my friends installed Vista on an Athlon XP 3000+ with 160Gb HDD it took only around 20mins. Perhaps the hard drive is too small?

It's not the hard drive size, since i installed it on a 35GB or so partition. It may be that you got a bad/corrupted version of it. Or perhaps your trying to install the 64-Bit version on a 32-Bit processor.

Thanks for the responses. I installed it on a second partition on a 200GB Seagate SATA drive and worked fine. Except that now the video/audio is very choppy/skipping and the mouse drags horribly. When I check CPU usage in Task Manager it's pegged at 100%. Even with no apps running. All the drivers are installed correctly and working so if anyone has run into this any help would be great.

I've had that problem in XP before too, im not sure how it got fixed, it just "went away". I tried vista, and the cpu was only at around 1-4%, but the memory was around 500MB free (out of 1GB).

I wouldn't call Vista a resource hog. I have it and it runs flawlessly. I am looking at my performance tab as I type this and CPU is at 3%, out of 1GB RAM I have 462 left (but a fair bit running) and pagefile usage at 1.49 GB. Nothing wrong with that.
