Default MsMpEng.exe what is this?

MsMpEng.exe, this program uses about 30% of my cpu at load up and at random points when on the computer. I've never seen or heard of this file running. But it is using alot of my CPU and I think it is a virus that has to do with my monitor screen randomly turning black and changing the monitor settings.(yes I did everything imaginable). But anyway is this good or bad to have, it is run by my SYSTEM if that helps. Well anyway please respond,
Thanks,
JTM

MsMpEng.exe is Microsoft Windows Defender Antispyware. It would have anything to do with your monitor.

If you just go to google and type in any .exe in your proccesses window, it will tell you what it is.
