Default Win XP Pro will not install

I am have been trying to do a fresh install of win xp pro for someone. And it's just not happening. I really need so help here. Nothing I have tried is working and I have worked on this everyday for 2 weeks.
The problem is after the files are copied from the disk and Windows shuts down, it boots back up but nothing happens but a flashin curser. I have set the bios everyway I know to do it to make it boot but it's not going into the windows installation for nuthing.
I have put a few diff hard drives in here and anything else I can think of. But nothing is working. I am suppoesd to give the computer back tomorrow and I would like to get this installed some how.
What do you guys suggest.

I have done that. 4 times and it will not do it. After the first day of working on this install I started keeping a log of what I have tried.

Nope, I have some old ram here and put them in and the same thing happens. Besides, it had xp on it and it was working fine when I got it. But he wanted a fresh copy of xp pro installed. Thats why he brought it to me.

this might sound weird, take the cmos battery out for about 10 secs put it back in, then in bios, setup up default setting and auto detect drives. make sure you hard-drive jumper is on cable select. if this fails take a baseball bat to it lol.
i had the same problem but with windows 98. is the computer compatible with xp well got to go watch band of brothers i'll check back later

Well, maybe I am the only person in the world to encounter this problem. Sure seems that way. Posted in another forum last week and no one had a clue either. I have never had an install kick my butt before but I guess this one has done so. Just hate that I formatted his drive.
I will check back later today in case someone has another suggestion. But I know after 17 hours of sitting here working on this thing I hate the machine. I have had no problem in the past.

I know this is probably a stupid suggestion but try a different power supply. I have had multiple problems w/computers on bootup that this has resolved. I know it was working before, But you know how electronics are. Good luck!

I have not tried a power supply. I did think about it but I really don't think that would be the problem. But before he comes to pick it up tomorrow I will.
