Default laptop give black screen after installing XP

I tried to install Win XP Prof. two times on an Evo N610C laptop, but every time I start the laptop the day after, XP doesn't start, after you can choose for the bios, the screen stays black with the cursor in the upper right corner.

Hope someone knows this problem.

Thanks,

Did you upgrade from another version or did you install fresh to a reformated hard drive?

Normally, I install Win 98 first, and than upgrade to XP. Try this, but you have to start from scratch.

i had the same problem (however not with a laptop).
after bringing the pc back to the computerstore it seemed that i f*cked the motherboard by blowing up the firewire bus/chip (because of wrong connecting it).
The computer could install windows XP untill the end, but when it was finished, and i restarted the pc, it always showed a black screen with a blinking text-pointer.
