windows xp is based on windows NT which is completely DOS free(except Command of coarse.)
As for linux you either need another haddrive or partion the primary one Hope i helped- good luck

If you want to install linux and partition you drive (if your primary is not already taking up the entire disk), when your computer boots get into your CMOS settings and change the boot order to start with the CD-ROM, put in the linux cd and go through the steps. Or buy another Hard Drive.
