Default Best Video Editing software for a desktop pc?

I'm interested in making little slide videos, etc. I want a program like WMM but with some more options, is there anything free that can get that done?
Thanks,
JTM

I would consider trying out Adobe Premiere Pro or Adobe Premiere Elements (stripped down version of Pro). You can get a 30-Day trial on www.adobe.com.

I use Premiere for all my videos. Personally, I really hate the layout of Premiere Pro. Premiere 6.5 ran much smoother, editing wise, but Premiere Pro seems to render things faster. Keyboard shortcuts seem to of changed or don't work now, and other very annoying things. However, this is from someone who learned how to do everything on 6.5...

I also use Adobe Premiere Pro for all my video editing, although I like iMovie better.
