Default Boot cd that takes me to dos

i have a laptop and it will not load win xp home sp2.
i dont have a floppy drive.
all it says is operating system not found. even tho everything is there intact (i checked with linux live cd)

i tried the windows xp install cd's recovery program, but that does no good because i can not open anything.

is there any downloadable boot cd's that will take me right to dos?
i need to get into fdisk
its a acer aspire 5000 series laptop

If you have a windows 98 startup disk you can boot off that and when you are given a choice. Choose 4 and you will exit to dos. Once you are there at an A prompt type fdisk /mbr. This will rewrite the boot sector and hopefully take care of your problem. When you exit you should boot right into windows.

If you find a way and I hope you do. Then it might make some sense to buy an external floppy. An external floppy will work but it is not an immediate fix for you. It will be worth its weight in gold.
